Subaru has today launched dealer and online pre-orders for its second generation BRZ sports car.

The first details of the cult coupe’s Australian specification have been confirmed – with more to follow closer to estimated launch in December.

Two variants will be available - BRZ Coupe and BRZ Coupe S - and both with the choice of six-speed manual or six-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission.

Powered by Subaru’s new naturally aspirated 2.4-litre direct and port injection four-cylinder Horizontally-opposed Boxer engine, BRZ for the first time offers a suite of Vision Assist features, starting with:

  • Blind Spot Monitor (BSM)
  • Lane Change Assist (LCA)
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)

Automatic BRZs also introduce Subaru’s award-winning EyeSight driver-assist technologies, while also adding:

  • High Beam Assist (HBA)
  • Reverse Automatic Braking (RAB)

Inside the snug coupe cockpit, a large 8-inch touchscreen integrated infotainment system makes easy operation of key systems including:

  • Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ connectivity
  • Digital radio (DAB+)
  • Satellite navigation
  • Vehicle settings

All BRZs feature dual zone climate control air conditioning, leather steering wheel and gear shift.

BRZ Coupe’s cloth seat trim upgrades to Ultrasuede® and leather accented seat trim in BRZ Coupe S, plus heated driver and front passenger seats.

Every BRZ features smart key and push-start ignition, together with self-levelling LED headlights (dusk-sensing), Daytime LED Running Lights (DRL), 18-inch alloy wheels and body-coloured door mirrors.

BRZ is available in:

  • Crystal White Pearl
  • Ice Silver Metallic
  • Magnetite Grey Metallic
  • Crystal Black Silica
  • Sapphire Blue Pearl (new)
  • Ignition Red (New)
  • WR Blue Pearl

As revealed in May, BRZ’s new engine delivers almost 18% more torque than the superseded manual model and over 20% more torque than the outgoing automatic.

Automatic BRZs gain a revised Sport mode.

BRZ’s new body has approximately 60% greater front lateral bending rigidity and approximately 50% more torsional stiffness. The stiffer body contributes to improved steering response, more nimble handling and better stability.

Subaru General Manager, Blair Read, said: “In line with Subaru’s hard-earned reputation for great balance and control, all BRZ components are designed to be optimally placed for maximum performance.

“BRZ’s improved power to weight ratio applies lessons learned from the much-admired Subaru Global Platform.

“This means BRZ’s unique platform is furthered strengthened and when combined with an engine with more power with an even lower centre of gravity, you get the feeling it can’t possibly get any better as a fun driver’s car!”

Full Australian BRZ specification will be confirmed in the coming months.
