  • What is a Boxer engine?

While most engines stand vertically, ours lay flat. The famous Subaru Boxer engine delivers handling like no other engine can. Sitting horizontally in the engine bay, it moves like a boxer’s fists with a punch a counterpunch action. Lightweight, low and flat, it makes for perfect balance and a much lower centre of gravity. It creates less noise and vibration too.

All of this means greater on-road handling for you. More stability. More performance. More fun. And a more confident drive.

  • What is EyeSight® driver assist technology?

EyeSight® driver assist technology was developed to help keep you much safer on the roads. It’s like your second pair of eyes, spotting potentially dangerous situations like cyclists up ahead.

This award-winning technology works by capturing 3D images through cameras on the front windscreen. If it sees anything that might be of danger, it warns you audibly, urging you to take action and brake. It automatically applies the brakes if you don’t.

EyeSight® driver assist is available across the range on Liberty and Levorg, and selected Forester, Outback and Impreza models.

  • What is Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive?

Only in a Subaru do you have the confidence of the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (SAWD) system. Rather than a 2WD or a 4WD, we engineer our vehicles so that the engine power delivers to all four wheels simultaneously.

This means double the grip capacity for better cornering and acceleration. Greater control and confidence for a much safer drive. This is why every one of our vehicles – excluding the Subaru BRZ – engages all four wheels, all the time.

Vehicle Servicing

  • Do I have to service my Subaru on the due date even if I’m not doing the km’s?

Your Subaru has an optimum service interval that depends as much on time and driving conditions as it does on distance. If you're mostly driving your Subaru on sealed roads in moderate conditions, then you'll need to service it as per the standard service schedule intervals, either according to time or kilometres travelled.

Everyone's driving habits are different and therefore so are the service requirements for your vehicle. You should be servicing your vehicle based either on time or distance, whichever occurs first. For example, 3 months or 5000km.

If you don't do a lot of kilometres you should have your Subaru serviced according to the recommended time-based service intervals. So even though you haven't travelled great distances, the engine has been working hard during those short, stop-start trips, such as city driving.

However, if you drive your Subaru more regularly and over longer distances you will reach the kilometre interval first. In this case you should service your vehicle based on the recommended distance travelled.

Check your handbook or call your local authorised Subaru Retailer to determine the specific service intervals that apply to your Subaru.

Check out our Scheduled Service Intervals page for more information.

  • I want to modify my Subaru. Will this affect my warranty?

We often receive queries from Subaru owners who are interested in modifying their vehicles, including changing tyre sizes. Whilst we understand that people wish to personalise their vehicle, we would like to remind everyone out there of a few important areas to consider before fitting any non-standard or non-factory components to their Subaru.

Subaru and their engineers carry out extensive testing to ensure that vehicles will perform reliably and safely under all operating conditions.  All of the parts fitted to your Subaru from the factory, and/or genuine Subaru Accessories added, have been tested to ensure they meet Subaru standards. Subaru has tested the components to ensure they are safe and will not interfere with any other systems in your vehicle.

Adding non-genuine components to your vehicle may affect its response to conditions and/or result in damage to other components.  Please note that your Subaru's New Car Warranty may be compromised where a fault occurs that is related to, or caused by, a modification.

Therefore, Subaru Australia does not recommend any modifications away from the original factory specifications, the only exception being the fitment of Genuine Subaru Accessories.

Check out our Warranty page for more information.
