EyeSight® Driver Assist technology uniquely utilises two cameras mounted in the windscreen to help detect, minimise or even prevent collisions. In addition to monitoring other cars, the system can recognise pedestrians and cyclists, and determine their distance, shape and speed of travel.

Our suite of EyeSight Driver Assist technologies include:

  • Pre-Collision Braking System and Brake Assist – helps the driver slow down or come to a complete stop if an obstacle is detected in front.
  • Pre-Collision Throttle Management – restricts engine output to reduce available acceleration when needed.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control – maintains a speed set by the driver to ensure sufficient distance from the car in front.
  • Brake Light Recognition – can detect the sudden activation of brake lights in vehicles ahead.
  • Lane Keep Assist – can recognise line markings on both sides of your lane to adjust your position.
  • Lane Sway and Lane Departure Warnings – watches the lane markers and constantly monitors your vehicle’s position.
  • Lead Vehicle Start Alert – prompts you when traffic ahead starts moving again.

One of Subaru’s most impressive safety technologies, Vision Assist, is designed to provide the driver with information and alerts to let them know what’s happening around their Subaru. The suite of Vision Assist technologies use cameras and sensors to keep an eye on blind spots and other traffic hazards.

Our suite of Vision Assist technologies includes:

  • Reverse Automatic Braking – can apply the brakes even if you don’t, if an imminent collision in the rear is detected.
  • Blind Spot Monitor – if a vehicle in your blind spot is detected, a light on your side mirror illuminates to let you know.
  • Front View Monitor – accurately judge the distance of obstacles in front of you using the front view camera.
  • Side View Monitor – uses footage from a camera installed in the passenger side door mirror to show your distance from the kerb or a parked vehicle.
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert – an audible and visual warning is triggered when reversing out of a parking space and a car is detected approaching from your side.

DMS performance and capability is dependent on environmental and technical conditions. Refer to Owner’s Manual for full details.

Subaru’s Driver Monitoring System, which debuted in the new generation 2019 Subaru Forester, uses an infrared LED camera installed in the visor of the Multi-Function Display. Watching out for you, the system monitors the driver’s face for signs of fatigue or distraction and provides an audible and visual warning if it detects signs of fatigue or that the driver is not focused on the road ahead.

Subaru’s Driver Monitoring System includes:

  • Distraction Warning – the system monitors the driver for signs of distraction and will trigger an audible and visual warning to remind them to return their focus to the road ahead.
  • Drowsiness Warning – the DMS also tracks the driver’s eye activity to calculate the driver’s level of drowsiness.
  • Facial Recognition*The Driver Monitoring System (DMS) on the Solterra does not feature facial recognition. – by recognising the face of up to five registered drivers, the system can sync to the driver’s preferred settings including air con, seat positions and door mirror angles.

Partnering with the Australian Road Safety Foundation

Every year, around 1200 people are killed on Australian roads. This is a tragic statistic for our country, and one that the Australian Road Safety Foundation (ARSF) has been working hard to reduce since its inception in 2007. The ARSF is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to driving the safety of every road user, every day, to achieve a significant year-on-year reduction in road deaths and injuries nationally. As Official Vehicle Sponsor, we’re proud to be partnering with the ARSF to help deliver education and awareness programs to make our roads both a safe and enjoyable place for all Australians. It’s just another way in which we’re showing our commitment to Subaru’s latest safety vision of zero fatal road accidents in a Subaru vehicle by the year 2030**Subaru Corporation (the Japanese manufacturer of Subaru cars) has publicly stated its aim to reduce the number of fatal accidents in a Subaru vehicle to zero by 2030 as well as the number of fatalities among pedestrians, cyclists and the like as a result of a collision with a Subaru vehicle. One of our most recent awareness programs is focused on the safety of our children.  Together with ARSF we have launched a reminder to everyone to drive safely and take extra care around school zones because together we can make the roads safer.
