Cooling System

Most of the energy in the gasoline (perhaps 7­0%) is converted into heat, it is the job of the cooling system to take care of that heat. In fact, the cooling system in a car driving down the freeway dissipates enough heat to heat two average-sized houses! The primary job of the cooling system is to keep the engine from overheating by transferring this heat to the air, but the cooling system also has several other important jobs.

  • Cooling System Hoses

    All cooling system hoses are designed and engineered to the highest standards. Subaru Genuine premium quality rubber is used for its durability and resilience, specifically designed to prevent the effects of electrochemical degradation encountered by top and bottom cooling hoses. Each hose is uniquely designed for each vehicle to ensure cooling efficiency, and to withstand under bonnet temperatures.

  • Engine Coolant

    Critical to your overall engine performance, Subaru Genuine Coolants are fully formulated, corrosion inhibited, ethylene glycol-based READY-TO-USE coolants. 

    Subaru Base Coolant  - Pre 2009
    Subaru Genuine Engine Coolant (Green in colour)  is ready to use, all-year-round coolant, designed to provide complete cooling system protection.

    Subaru Genuine Engine Coolant is a glycol coolant which reduces cavitation in areas such as the water pump and surface cavitation in hot spots of the cylinder head. The minimisation of cavitation on heat rejecting aluminium surfaces (eg. behind exhaust ports) helps control pitting and cavitation erosion and so increases component life.

    • Excellent HOT weather protection. Subaru Genuine Engine Coolant helps prevent the risk of the engine coolant boiling, leading to coolant loss and possible engine damage 

    Replacement is required every 50,000kms/2 years whichever comes first.

    Subaru Long Life Coolant – 2009 onwards
    Subaru Super Long-life Coolant (Blue in colour) is a fully formulated, corrosion inhibited, ethylene glycol-based READY-TO-USE coolant. It is a superior, Subaru engine coolant, formulated to provide excellent corrosion protection for modern engine alloys found in radiators, water pumps and cylinder blocks and heads.

    Subaru Super Long-life Coolant has been designed to meet the requirements of Subaru engines providing an effective heat transfer medium, withstanding the high temperatures found in modern cooling systems, while also providing antifreeze protection to temperatures of –18°C.

    Product Application:

    • Subaru Super Long-life Coolant has been specifically formulated and recommended for use in Subaru engines from MY09
    • Subaru Super Long-life Coolant is uniquely compatible with the aluminium, rubber and synthetic components of the Subaru cooling system 
    • Subaru Super Long-life Coolant is pre-mixed and ready-to-use at the correct ratio and should be added to cooling systems as supplied when either effecting a complete system change or as a top-up 

    CAUTION: DO NOT ADD WATER TO COOLANT.

    Subaru coolant is pre mixed to the correct ratio. Adding water will change the mix ratio, not allowing the coolant to be 100% effective.

    When used as supplied, Subaru Super Coolant has an expected life of 6 years/150,000km, whichever occurs first.

  • Radiator Cap

    The radiator cap is more than just a cap to keep the coolant in your radiator, but more a pressure release valve.

    As the coolant increases in temperature, pressure is built up within the radiator so the radiator caps valve will open allowing the built up pressure to release, as well as coolant to be drained into the reservoir. As the pressure drops and coolant cools, the coolant that was dispersed into the reservoir is then sucked back into the radiator.

    Having the incorrect radiator cap can not only cause overheating or cooling problems, but more performance and long term engine and component damage.

    Subaru Genuine radiator caps are preset and designed for your vehicle and its cooling system. 

  • Thermostat

    Your vehicle's thermostat is engineered for highly reliable temperature control and specifically designed for each vehicle. Controlling the circulation of the Subaru Genuine Coolant, this ensures that the operating temperature of your engine is maintained at its optimal range providing consistent engine and driving performance.

  • Water Pump

    The water pump circulates the Subaru coolant through the engine, radiator and hoses keeping your engine working at optimal temperature. 

    Each water pump is made from the from the highest quality materials with robust impeller and outlet design along with the reliability that comes with being a genuine Subaru part.
