Round 2 of the 2013 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) - Rally Sweden took place in and around Karlstad from 7 to 10 February.
Subaru pairs in the WRC2 included Ukrainian Yuriy Protasov and Kuldar Sikk in their WRX STI R4. Kazakh Arman Smailov and co-driver Audrey Rusov, as well as the Norwegian duo of Anders Grøndal and Trond Svendsen, fought for a win in the Production Cup of the WRC2 in their WRX STI N4s.
In addition, Italian Lorenzo Bertelli and Lorenzo Granai, as well as Swedish Joakim Roman and Jörgen Fornander, entered the rally outside the WRC2 behind the wheel of an N4 Subaru, making 5 Subaru crews in all.
Under some harsh conditions with blowing snow, Grøndal and Svendsen got off to a good start by leading the WRC2 in front of the top S2000 cars until the middle of Day 3.
Towards the end of the rally, however, they lost out to an S2000 car, which is allowed more extensive modification from its base car than that of an N4, Despite this, they still managed to finish in a solid 2nd place in the WRC2 ahead of Protasov and Sikk who finished 4th and Smailov and Rusov who came in 6th.
Bertelli and Granai were the 3rd fastest Subaru runners, finishing in 20th place overall despite their limited experience in snow.>
The Subaru Challenge Award, which is offered to those who compete in a Subaru N4 vehicle, was awarded to the following pairs of a driver and co-driver: Anders Grøndal / Trond Svendsen and Arman Smailov / Audrey Rusov.
