Subaru’s new generation Impreza WRX has rated four stars in a road test published in today’s Drive Life section of the Sydney Morning Herald.
Under the headline “Wild child is ageing gracefully”, Bill McKinnon, one of Australia’s most experienced road testers, writes: “You can feel the Subaru’s innate strength.”
He adds: “Relative to most other cars, though, the WRX still has the capacity to amaze at how easy it is to drive quickly. It feels light, responsive, adhesive and always obedient. The brakes are powerful and have excellent fade resistance.
“Now, with all-wheel drive plus stability control, only a complete dingbat could possibly get a WRX out of shape.”
He concludes: “If you regret missing out on the Rex experience when you were young, silly and life was fun, fear not. Now that we’re older, smarter and life is, well, more complicated, it’s back and tuned to our sensibilities. And when the inevitable midlife crisis jibes start, just tell your tormentors it’s a midlife crisis the WRX had to have.”
