Harmony vouches for Subaru safety

Subaru sales consultant Harmony Pike regularly highlights the brand’s five-star safety benefits to prospective customers.

But after being involved in a massive collision in her own Subaru Impreza, Harmony now has a compelling first-hand story to tell about the effectiveness of the Subaru safety cell.

Harmony, who works at City Subaru, Newstead, in Queensland, was the proud owner of a new generation Impreza hatch for just five days when a Nissan Patrol equipped with a bull bar rear-ended her car.

She was stopped at a pedestrian crossing and had no chance to move out of the way as the much larger Patrol hit hard.

She said: “I don’t think that the Patrol driver even saw me, as I didn’t even hear any tyres squealing before the impact.

“I believe the Impreza’s active head restraints prevented me from any whiplash injury and, much to everyone’s surprise, I even worked the whole day. I did go to physio to get a check as I was told that whiplash can take a bit of time, but apart from shock and a slight sore neck I was fine.”

She added: “It’s now been six months since the accident and I have not had any repercussions. I am now driving around in a new blue Impreza and this one is unharmed.”

Harmony has pictures of the written-off Impreza on her work computer, to show customers just how sturdy the construction is, even when hit by a far larger and heavier vehicle.

“I tell them that I have had no repercussions from the incident and explain how the crumple zones helped to absorb most of the energy from the impact,” she added.

Harmony says that before her accident, “I did believe that Subaru was a well made vehicle and that it would be safer then most. But now I know for sure.”
