Subaru’s Forester XS premium has been named Wheels Magazine’s pick for the 2008 Gold Star Cars Compact SUV category.
Forester was ranked ahead of Mitsubishi Outlander and BMW X3 3.0D – both of which cost between $4000 and $36,410 more than Forester.
It scored top points for:
Price (5/5),
Insurance (10/10),
Fuel costs (15/15),
Safety (15/15) and
Drive (4.5/5).
Wheels journalist John Cadogan wrote:
“Strong resale and nominal insurance costs are augmented by light fuel bills – less than the Outlander and diesel BMW.
“The fact the Forester offers an outstanding driving experience just sweetens the deal. This is the cheapest way into a good SUV; buy without regret.”
In the July issue of Wheels, Forester is ranked third due to a data entry error, which meant that it was not awarded the correct points for its 3 year/unlimited kilometre warranty.
With the full points awarded, the Forester moves from third to first place in its class. Results can be viewed at the
Wheels Magazine website A correction will be printed in the August edition of Wheels.
