Subaru is a leader in collision avoidance with all cars featuring All-Wheel Drive, and a leader in collision protection, having achieved the maximum 5-star ANCAP1 occupant protection rating on every car we sell.
Safety - Collision Avoidance
Safety starts with All-Wheel Drive
Subaru constant All-Wheel Drive offers optimum traction in all conditions, all the time. It is a safety advantage offering almost twice the grip of twowheel drive and superior to many other part-time All-Wheel Drive Systems – which is why Subaru vehicles are among the safest in their class for accident avoidance.
On tight corners, wet roads, in snow and on muddy tracks, Subaru achieves optimum traction. The ideal balance of the symmetrical drive train provides extra control, while the horizontally opposed Boxer Engine sits low and flat in the engine bay, underlining the ideal centre of gravity.

Subaru’s Views on Rear Vision
Our dedication to safety includes a commitment to an optimum field of vision for drivers, especially when reversing.
Vision is an essential component of active safety design and Subaru has minimised blind spots, enabling the driver to easily judge exterior dimension of the vehicle to optimise control.
Sophisticated Braking with ABS
The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) is a fundamental part of our safety philosophy, offering shorter stopping distances in emergencies.
That is why we have ABS braking with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) standard on all models. ABS braking uses independent sensors to detect and control braking on each wheel, providing the control required to allow the driver to brake and steer away from danger.
EBD works with the ABS system to provide greater reassurance by automatically adjusting rear brake force to optimise stopping power. Subaru uses an advanced Bosch four-sensor/four channel/three phase ABS.

Vehicle Dynamics Control System (VDC)
A standard feature on selected Subaru models is Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) - a premium stability control system designed to give you optimum control in emergencies.
For a safer ride VDC monitors and analyses the driving conditions via an array of sensors, so that power and safety are not compromised. In extreme situations, such as swerving, side-slipping or entering spin, VDC activates to control vehicle stability via torque distribution, power reduction or braking in accordance with the level of danger detected by the system.

Safety - Collision Protection
Occupant Safety
All new Subaru variants have a five star occupant safety rating, from the independent Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).
This means no matter which model Subaru you or your staff drive, you have the peace of mind of maximum 5 star occupant safety. Right from the design concept, our engineers aimed to make our vehicles the safest in their class, which is a very important consideration when purchasing a vehicle.

SRS Airbags
All new Subaru models have dual front, dual front side and curtain airbags, which provide additional protection in life-threatening collisions.

Crash protection cell and side impact protection
Every new Subaru vehicle body incorporates a protective cell of ring-shaped reinforcement frames, which are designed to absorb the energy of an impact from any direction.
The impact of front and side collisions is further lessened by special energy-absorbing zones. For example, centre pillars are constructed using new, lightweight ‘tailored blank welding’ for additional strength.

Seatbelts
All Subaru models are equipped with pretensioner and load limiter driver’s seatbelts to minimise front occupant injury. Every model also features three rear 3-point automatic emergency locking retractor (A/ELR) seatbelts.
These are designed to improve safety for rear seat passengers, and to ensure baby capsules and child seats are more securely anchored.
