WE BELIEVE ONE OF OUR GREATEST SELLING POINTS IS OUR STRONG RETAINED RESALE VALUES.
Retained Resale Values
Whilst performance, aesthetic appeal, environmental commitment, both active and passive safety and security are all important factors when considering your next vehicle purchase, business is business! The purchase of the right motor vehicle for your fleet, whether big or small, is a vital decision.
We believe one of our greatest selling points is our strong Retained Resale Values. Retained Resale Values have a significant impact on the whole-of-life cost of a motor vehicle and Subaru’s Retained Resale Values are something we are extremely proud of, but will never be complacent about.
Our strong Retained Resale Values have not come about by accident. We have actively focused on them for a number of years to ensure a Subaru is a commercially viable purchase at all times.
Our success in part is due to:
1) Never ‘flooding’ the market with new vehicles that need to be distress sold
2) Not ‘chasing’ a large number of big accounts
3) Changing model years over during, rather than at the end of each year
4) Our disciplined marketing and branding. The Subaru brand is the most valuable asset we have and what we do with the brand today determines our success tomorrow!
5) An affinity with our customers, where they most likely choose their vehicle for reasons of safety, handling/ride, life-style, performance, fuel economy and Retained Resale Value
6) Our reliability, which is one of the primary reasons we regularly enjoy the highest intention to repurchase by customers after 12 months of ownership
7) The latest advanced engine immobiliser and DataDot technology which has contributed to reduced theft rates
8) The passion of our staff, Retailers and customers! We would ask you don’t take our word for it, rather please look at the independent Glass’s or Redbook data on Retained Resale Values.
Glass’s Fleet & Residuals Report
Glass’s Fleet and Residuals Report - Passenger and Light Commercial Vehicles - is published quarterly and highlights our positioning as a premium Japanese automotive brand.
The dominance of Subaru variants in these used values confirms the integrity of our products in the long-term and highlights what a great investment each of our models are.
These Retained values also indicate just how persuasive the whole of life ownership story is for Subaru. Fleet buyers must not only look at the initial purchase price – a dollar saved at new car purchase time, could cost you thousands of dollars at trade in time, due to depreciation.
Further, the inclusion of additional safety features in vehicles (as part of a standard specification) can make fleet vehicles more desirable at end of life (subject to age and condition). This is evidenced by the high Retained Resale Values achieved by Subaru products, which have many active and passive safety features fitted as standard.
Glass’s Empirical Information
The majority of new passenger vehicles that appear on the used market within two to four years are from Government and Fleet clients. These vehicles generally travel between 15,000 and 25,000 kms per annum.
By way of an example, Glass’s Fleet and Residuals Report - Passenger and Light Commercial Vehicles, March 2008 to May 2008 reported the following results.

Small Car segment at 36 months old, Subaru Impreza variants fill 6 of the top 10 spots for Retained Resale Value and 7 of the top 10 at 60 months.
In the
Medium Car segment, Subaru Liberty fills 6 of the top 10 spots for Retained Resale Value at 24 months.
